Colour and Accessibility

CB, my friends and I in a Skype exchange this evening considered the possiblity of using phpbb WASO for the entire site we're making.

It's just a consideration at the moment but the point arose that if that were to happen
we should use some of the style elements, ie colour choices and images, of the version I've worked on for about six weeks now.

I don't mind jettisoning what I've done (it's been a great learning curve, including xhtml 1.0 strict), but my question is, are there some accessibility no-nos, apart from the obvious, with regard to colours used? I've read about this quite a bit, but it's hard to keep it all in one's head.

If you've any thoughts on the matter I'd be grateful to read them. Is there a reason, for example, why you've used a grey (#CCCCCC) background, or is that a personal choice?

Hey Philo.

There's no issue at all if you are to change the style sheet to better match your site. In fact, I encourage it by showing off the Style Switcher - which can be applied to your preference.

As for the default style, that is simply more for personal preference. (Including the #ccc).

Your point about the colours and Accessibility are also quite valid. The combinaton of #ccc and #fff is certianly not sufficient contrast.

However, I think what is more important is that I am not conveying any information with colour alone. (ie: look at the blue box for more information)

As with my style switcher and the extensive use of CSS, the styles can be switched, added to, and amended to your, or the users liking.

So, please feel free to change the CSS as you wish.

Cheers!
